Changes detected by the Portuguese Geographic Institute (Instituto Geográfico Português), irrespective of any notification from the tax offices, are recorded in three copies of the plot maps, one of which remains in its possession, another with the Directorate-General for Taxation (DGCI) or with the finance directorate where the latter is responsible for the custody and maintenance of the cadastre, and the third with the tax office.
The three copies of the plot maps and their holders, including the finance directorate where it is responsible for the cadastre, are retained.
